As I mentioned in a previous post, Cemetery Dance Publications will be publishing a special edition of Carrie by Stephen King later this year. Artist Tomislav Tikulin has been working hard on the artwork all spring, and later this month we’ll be posting a few of the finished interiors on the Cemetery Dance website, but in the meantime I wanted to post just PART of one of my favorite images he’s turned in so far:
Later this year, Cemetery Dance Publications will be publishing a special edition of Carrie by Stephen King. Artist Tomislav Tikulin has been hard at work on exclusive color paintings for this edition and I thought it would be nice to show off the two completed wrap-around cover paintings for anyone who hasn’t seen them yet. I’ll be posting some more artwork from the book in June, so stay tuned!
Our slipcase and box maker toiled over several different prototypes for The Dark Man Artwork Portfolio before coming up with a design that would protect the artwork for years to come. The stack of artwork is nearly 1.5 inches THICK, so housing the artwork in a way that didn’t bend or stress each print was our highest priority, which is why it took three tries to get the case just right. We ended up designing a special two piece slipcase system that we’ve never used before and we’re thrilled with how it turned out. This will begin shipping next month, but you can see a few of the first photos below:
This color painting by Glenn Chadbourne is inspired by “The General” by Stephen King and is featured in the Lettered Edition of Screamplays, which Cemetery Dance Publications is sending to the printer next month:
Bluelines (or the “approval proof”) are the pre-publication proof that a printer sends a publisher to look over one last time before the publisher gives the printer the “green light” to start printing the book. This is your very last chance to catch any mistakes in the printer’s set-up, etc. Only one or maybe two sets of bluelines exist for each book.
As shown in my post about It by Stephen King, these days most bluelines are just a digitally printed stack of loose pages, but one of our new printers actually delivered a recent approval proof as a bound (with tape) book, which was a nice surprise. You can see a little bit of the DJ bluelines under the book, too:
The Deluxe Lettered Edition of Doctor Sleep by Stephen King is limited to 52 signed and lettered copies and should be finished at our box maker in April.
